Kelvin Smith Library offers a variety of spaces for individuals, small groups, or faculty/staff wishing for classroom space. Descriptions of individual spaces are listed below. Reserve today or reserve for the future.

Single Study Room

 

Individual Quiet Study Rooms

Location: 3rd floor, behind bathrooms.

Capacity: 1 user

Study in a private space with a desk, chair and power outlet.

These rooms are intended for quiet study only and headphones are required, as these rooms are not soundproof and are part of the third floor quiet area. 


Collaboration Rooms

CWRU Students studying in a collaboration room.

Locations: 1st, 2nd and 3rd floors.

Be aware: 3rd floor Collaboration Rooms are found in quiet study spaces, and are not soundproof. Headphones may be required.

Capacity: Up to 8 users

Rooms feature a TV, connection panel that allow for HDMI, VGA and composite ports hook-ups, and a table with 4-8 chairs. Computer adapters are available at the Service Center, and a Dell laptop or MacBook Air may be borrowed from the Laptop kiosk located on the first floor.

Virtual Meeting Room

Location: 1st floor, Freedman Center Collaboration Commons.

Capacity: 1 user

Perfect for private virtual meetings. Room features a desk, chair, power outlet, and whiteboard. Students may borrow a Dell laptop or MacBook Air from the Laptop kiosk located on the first floor. 


Graduate Study Carrels

Available by Lottery only to CWRU Graduate Students. Please apply to the Graduate Study Carrel lottery before September 23rd for entry.

Locations: 1st floor, Oversize and Kulas Music Collection; 3rd floor, Kent Hale Smith Reading Room.

Capacity: 1 user

Lottery Start Date: 2nd Monday of September

Reservation Length: Academic Year (Fall, Spring and Summer semesters)

Return Date of Keys: 2nd Friday of August*

Each study carrel offers the space to conduct research in a quiet area of the library with access to 2 lockable storage cabinets.

Emails are sent to those Graduate students whose entries are drawn and keys will need to be retrieved from Kelvin Smith Library Administration within 2 weeks. Any remaining carrels not assigned will be granted to the next student in line on the wait list.

Classrooms

Classroom view of Room 215

Locations: Lower Level and 2nd floor

Room 215 Capacity: 26 users.

LL06 A, B-C, or A-C Capacity: 16, 32, and 60 users.

Rooms have interactive monitors that allow computer hook-up, projectors, and web cameras for virtual interactions. Furniture is plentiful and mobile to be configured however you wish. Laptops are available for hands-on interactive instruction.


Freedman Center Collaboration Commons

Location: 1st floor, Freedman Center for Digital Scholarship.

Entire Room Capacity: 45-60 users 

FCC North Capacity: 17 users

FCC South Spaces 1,2 or 3 Capacity: 6 users  

The Collaboration Commons is designed for Digital Scholarship consultations, collaborations, and instruction sessions. Movable Whiteboards, numerous tables and chairs, and open space with touch-screen technology are available.

Selfie Studio

Location: 1st floor, Freedman Center Lab.

Be aware: The Selfie Studio is not a soundproof room, and we cannot ensure an environment that is free from interruptions, distractions, or outside noise.

Capacity: 3 users

A self-serve, “cell-only” space designed for recording videos, conducting filmed interviews, recording monologues, etc. For more information about the studio, please visit the Selfie Studio's user guide.

At this time, the Selfie Studio is open; no reservation or key check-out is required to use the space. If the Studio door is locked, please contact Service Center Staff to unlock the space.
