Chunbiao graduated from China Medical University with an MD degree in 1986 and then worked in the Institute of Forensic Medicine at his alma mater as a teacher and researcher; meanwhile, he pursued his MS degree. He began working at Case Western Reserve University in 1998 in the Department of Reproductive Biology as a research assistant, setting up and managing a new biology laboratory. After that, he worked in the National Prion Disease Pathology Surveillance Center (2001 - 2002), the Gene Expression and Genotyping Core Facility (2002 - 2022), and now the Genomics Core Facility (from 2022) at Case Western Reserve University.
