Consider Nominating an Outstanding Colleague for Distinguished University Professor

To the Faculty of Case Western Reserve University:

I write to encourage you to consider who among your colleagues deserves the highest honor the university can bestow upon a faculty member: the title of Distinguished University Professor.

Distinguished University Professors demonstrate excellence as teachers and researchers. They are renowned in their respective fields and have contributed remarkable service to our institution. This annual effort allows us to appreciate all of our peers as we highlight some of the most exceptional among them. On the Distinguished University Professor website is a formal account of the criteria and process involved in the selection process.

We are privileged to be at a place full of so many talented and dedicated individuals. As you consider colleagues to nominate this year, I encourage you to be mindful of those individuals who represent the broad diversity of our campus faculty community. From a disciplinary standpoint, I encourage nominations from fields less recognized by this award in the past, including humanities and social sciences, and some health science disciplines. It is also essential that these awards more broadly recognize outstanding women faculty in our schools and the College and our leading faculty members from underrepresented groups.

The dean of each school and college determines how members of the faculty are nominated. Each dean is to announce the process for 2025 by October 10, 2024.

Thank you in advance for taking the time to reflect upon your peers’ qualities and accomplishments. I look forward to receiving the final nomination packets.
