CWRU's University Compliance Program maintains a list of all university policies.
Policies support the University's mission by establishing clear standards for individual conduct, supporting operational efficiency, promoting legal compliance, and mitigating risk.
Each fall, the university provides an overview of statistics and information relevant to our campus community, in accordance with the Student Right-to-Know and Campus Security Act.
This listing includes selected policies that fall under the purview of the Office of the Provost, and do not represent a complete list of all Case Western Reserve University policies.
General
CWRU Policies for Teaching Assistant Training (last reviewed July 2025) - All students who function as TAs are required to complete training for these roles.
Digital Accessibility Policy (last reviewed July 2025) - This policy, which promotes compliance with applicable local, state and federal regulations, laws, and guidance, applies to all Case Western Reserve University academic and administrative units that create, maintain or procure websites, web-based applications, course materials or other online communications vehicles used for programs and activities of the university.
Expedited Hiring Review Policy (last reviewed February 2025) - The purpose of this policy is to establish a process for expedited review for visiting short-term faculty, research faculty, partner hires, and faculty/research team hires.
Graduate Research Assistant Policy (new as of December 2025) - The purpose of this policy is to provide guidance for supervisors and graduate students regarding appointments as Graduate Research Assistants (GRAs).
Graduate Teaching Assistant Policy (new as of December 2025) - The purpose of this policy is to provide guidance for legal compliance and equity for students with appointments as Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs)
Health Incident Policy (last reviewed August 2024) - The purpose of this policy is to establish reporting requirements for faculty or staff members who observe a health incident that occurs on campus. This policy does not apply to health incidents that occur off campus.
Informing Students of Course Requirements Policy (new as of September 2025) - CWRU requires that instructors communicate course requirements to students in writing and in a timely manner.
International Travel Risk Management Policy (last reviewed August 2024) - This policy outlines the appropriate risk management precautions and responses the international travelers on behalf of CWRU should take in order to minimize travel risk.
Military Service Members Resuming Program of Study following Active Duty (last reviewed November 2021) - CWRU welcomes military service members to enroll as students in its educational programs. If a student temporarily pauses their CWRU studies in order to assume active military duty, then they may resume their studies with the same academic status as they had when last attending the University.
Policy Against High-Pressure Tactics to Recruit Military Service Members (last reviewed November 2021) - CWRU welcomes military service members to enroll as students in its educational programs. CWRU refrains from high-pressure recruiting tactics of this population in all of its recruiting and admission activities.
Policy for Full-Time Lecturer Reviews (last reviewed November 2024) - For schools that wish to reappoint a full-time lecturer for a sixth year or more, a formal assessment of the performance of the lecturer should be submitted to the Office of the Provost as justification.
Policy for the Verification of Faculty Credentials (last reviewed April 2025) - CWRU's policy for ascertaining the qualifications of faculty who hold non-tenure-track appointments or who are teaching in areas outside of their primary appointment.
Policy on Assignment of Academic Credits (last reviewed May 2023) - CWRU's policy for awarding credit hours for courses and other academic activities.
Policy on Assurance of Integrity in Distance Learning Courses (last reviewed September 2021) - requirements and recommended good-practice statements for CWRU courses taught via distance learning.
Policy on Freedom of Expression/Expressive Activities (last reviewed August 2024) - CWRU is committed to freedom of expression. The purpose of this policy is to promote that free exchange of ideas while preserving the safe and efficient operation of CWRU.
Policy on Institutional Records for Student Complaints (last reviewed December 2024) - CWRU endeavors to investigate and resolve student complaints efficiently and thoroughly. The university has adopted a standard protocol for recording student complaints.
Public Posting of Grades Policy (last reviewed May 2023) - According to the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act of 1974 (FERPA), posting grades by student names, student IDs, or Social Security numbers (or portions thereof) is prohibited.
Teach-Out Policy (last reviewed April 2024) - CWRU provides protections for students enrolled in academic programs that are planned for closure, so that the students may receive uninterrupted education toward completion of their programs.
