End-of-Semester Guidelines: Final Exams, Grades and Incompletes

To all Faculty teaching Spring 2025 undergraduate courses,

This is the last week of the semester before exams begin, and I want to thank you all for a successful semester. As you finish your courses, I wanted to remind you of some important final exam and final grade policies.

  • No final exams may be scheduled on reading days, April 29-30. Per academic policy, no exams or other required course-related activities may be scheduled for those days, but it is absolutely acceptable to meet with students for optional review sessions.
  • Final exams are scheduled for May 1-8. Faculty may not change the date of a final exam without the approval of Dean Molly Watkins in Undergraduate Advising Support, nor may the faculty alter the exam schedule for an individual student. If a student misses an exam due to illness or personal circumstances, please direct the student to their four-year advisor.
  • Final grades are due in SIS by 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 10. This deadline must be met to accommodate our students and administrative processes. Final degree audits for all graduating seniors take place on Sunday, May 11. Grades must be submitted on time in order for our seniors to be certified for graduation. Your timely support in submitting your grades is very appreciated.
  • Incompletes, while occasionally appropriate to support a student, should be used in accordance with academic policies as set forth in the General Bulletin. An Incomplete is only appropriate for a student who has completed the majority of the work in a course. Faculty can determine their own deadline for students to complete missing work as long as it is before Friday, Nov. 7. Some students may require earlier deadlines due to degree certification or academic standing review.

Thank you for all that you do to support our students.
