The Office of the Provost invites all undergraduate students to a special event focused on the art of having hard conversations. Hosted by Provost Joy K. Ward, this event will focus on how to engage in meaningful and thoughtful dialogue. Share an evening with other students and grow in your ability to convey your viewpoints and to learn from each other.
The event will first feature an informal discussion of current issues and global events among a group of faculty. Shannon French, Inamori Professor in Ethics and professor of philosophy will serve as the moderator. From there, students will engage in a conversation with each other to learn new perspectives and hone their skills.
Students will participate in:
- Active listening,
- Understanding the lived experiences of others, and
- Speaking for oneself.
...all skills that will be learned after evaluating the panel of faculty exhibiting these methods.
