Office of the Provost announces North Star Courses and Experiences

The Office of Provost is pleased to announce nearly three dozen new North Star courses and experiences. Activities range from for-credit courses to seminars to service-oriented projects to tours of various on- and off-campus locations.

At the heart of this program is an interest in helping students re-engage and reconnect with each other, with faculty and staff, and with businesses and residents of our neighboring communities.

“It’s amazing to see what our community has done in such a short timeframe,” said Provost and Executive Vice President Ben Vinson III. “In less than a month our community has put together a program that really highlights the best of who we are, and offers unique experiences that only Case Western Reserve can provide.”

North Star activities were developed by the campus community using four guiding principles:

  • Focus on CLE or on-campus experiences;
  • Be framed in short time bursts;
  • Take into account health and safety protocols; and
  • Show connection to the university’s strategic plan, Think Big.

“This is such a unique time in our history,” said Vinson. “Given the current public health crisis and its associated disparities, a viral pandemic, compounded with a national reckoning with structural racism, these courses and experiences could very well offer a much needed outlet for our campus community.”
