To the Faculty and Staff of Case Western Reserve University,
I hope your semester is off to a great start. As President Kaler highlighted earlier this week, spring 2025 promises exciting developments and opportunities. I would like to share a few updates that reflect our ongoing commitment to innovation, collaboration and cultivating an engaged campus.
Resources for Enhancing Civility & Connection
Encouraging constructive and respectful dialogue remains a cornerstone of our mission. On the Office of the Provost website, you will find resources for Enhancing Civility & Connection, including the 10 Civil Discourse Skills developed by our Civil Discourse Advisory Group. This semester, the Office of the Provost will once again host a series of Critical and Hard Conversations—stay tuned for details about these events and other programming aimed at fostering meaningful engagement and connection across our community.
All Things AI: New Website
The Office of the Provost, in collaboration with the AI Task Force, has recently unveiled the AI in Education initiative hub, a comprehensive new website designed to serve as a one-stop shop for everything related to AI at CWRU. This dynamic platform centralizes a wealth of resources, offering easy access to information about AI tools, upcoming events and news updates. It also highlights how AI is being thoughtfully integrated into the university’s educational mission, enhancing both teaching and learning experiences across campus.
New Reporting Form for International Travel
Since 2021, university policy has required all CWRU employees to register work-related international travel. To improve the process, the Office of International Affairs has launched a new travel reporting form. This quick, user-friendly form takes just two minutes to complete and is designed to help employees stay compliant while providing better protections related to safety and insurance.
Reminder for Faculty: Be Consistent in Primary Affiliations on Publications
I remain committed to enhancing the reputation of Case Western Reserve University, which includes ensuring that our faculty receive proper recognition for their outstanding work. To support this effort, faculty are reminded to use recommended primary affiliations in all published works. This simple but significant step of expressing them in the same way, helps elevate CWRU’s global standing and reinforces our reputation.
Additionally, please keep your ORCID profile updated and consider submitting your research to the CWRU Scholarly Commons. Doing so not only enhances the university’s visibility, but can also increase the readership and citations of your work. Together, these actions contribute to strengthening our collective reputation.
I wish you all a successful and inspiring spring semester. Thank you for everything you do to support our students, our community, and one another. Your dedication and efforts make a profound difference every day.
Sincerely,
Joy K. Ward
Provost and Executive Vice President
