AI in Education

At Case Western Reserve University, our approach to artificial intelligence (AI) in education begins with people, purpose and values—not technology alone. Through the Office of the Provost, CWRU's AI in Education initiative is advancing human-centered AI in teaching and learning to help students, faculty, staff, and postdocs build the skills, confidence and judgment needed to engage with AI responsibly.

Guided by Provost Joy K. Ward’s leadership and in collaboration with Vice Provost for Innovation Jeff Capadona and partners across campus, this initiative brings together AI literacy, academic innovation, ethical guidance, trusted tools and learning opportunities to help the CWRU community engage with AI responsibly and creatively.

We view AI not as a replacement for human thinking, creativity or faculty expertise, but as an enabling layer that can support learning, extend human expertise and strengthen critical thinking, communication, experiential learning and meaningful student-faculty interaction.

For AI toolspolicies and syllabus guidance, visit the new AI at CWRU site. The site brings together practical support for teaching and learning with AI, including guidance on responsible use, academic integrity, sample syllabus language, and other materials to engage with AI thoughtfully in academic settings. The AI at CWRU site also highlights academic pathways and training opportunities, including AI-related degree programs, certificates, courses, and events.

We invite the CWRU community to use these resources to build AI literacy, experiment responsibly and help shape teaching and learning practices that center human judgment, academic integrity, creativity and meaningful learning.
