Submit your ideas for North Star Courses and Experiences

As we prepare to return to campus, the gravity of our current circumstances is oftentimes palpable. We are in the midst of a global pandemic. We are confronting structural racism. We are dealing with all the related challenges and problems unique to our city and region. And amongst the challenges, some students may feel disconnected from our campus community.

With that in mind, the Office of the Provost invites faculty, staff and students to propose North Star Courses and Experiences. At the heart of this program is an interest in helping students re-engage and reconnect with each other, with faculty and staff, and with businesses and residents of our neighboring communities.

North Star activities will be grounded in these four guiding principles:

  • Focus on Cleveland or on-campus experience;
  • Be framed in short-time bursts;
  • Take into account health and safety protocols; and
  • Show connection to the university’s strategic plan, Think Big

Proposals may be for credit, or non-credit. No monetary awards will be made as part of the program. For those experiences proposing academic credit, the faculty member must be qualified to teach in the subject area and the course must receive a one-term approval through the school dean.

Visit the North Star Courses and Experiences webpage for additional information on these principles. The website also includes example topics and ideas and a link to submit your proposals. Proposals must be submitted by July 31.
