The Center for Civic Engagement & Learning plans a day each semester called Saturday of Service where a number of on- and off-campus service opportunities are available students. This spring, Saturday of Service will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024.

Campus-wide registration is now open! Volunteers can select from a variety of projects on this page, and registration will be available in CampusGroups until April 11. 

Hunger Network MidTown Market Check visitors in and out, distribute pre-packaged non-perishable items, pack perishable items for distribution, and help visitors select meat & frozen options. Project may include lifting boxes and standing on your feet for the duration of the service. 8 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.
Cleveland Botanical Garden Spring Prep The gardens are ready to be cleaned up for new plants to emerge and annuals planted. Help rake and remove debris from the gardens.  8:30 a.m. – 12:15 p.m.
Ozanam Center Food + Clothing Distribution Register and check in and out clients, sort and hang clothing, pack grocery bags, sort food donations, and offer hospitality. Project may include lifting bags and/or boxes and standing on your feet for the duration of the service. 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
Fairfax Community Clean Up Remove over-grown vegetation, trash, and debris from what was once a thriving neighborhood retail corridor along a section of Quincy Ave. 8:45 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Family Shelter Storage Reorganization Help create additional storage space in the shelter, turning a cluttered space into a usable storage area. The space will need to be cleaned out and organized in order to be of use. 9:15 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.
Hope Lodge Kitchen Clean-Out Clean out the Hope Lodge kitchen, wiping out drawers and cabinets and reorganizing everything. Other minor cleaning projects may also be requested.  9:30 a.m. – 1:15 p.m.
Garden@Case Spring Prep Light clean up around the garden space to remove any trash that has blown in over the winter. Remove dead plant matter from beds, turning over soil and composting to prep beds for Spring planting and sowing some early Spring seeds.  9:45 a.m. – 1:15 p.m.
Purple Oasis Garden Spruce Up Help with general clean up for planting season - designing planting beds and getting the planting beds ready for planting for the coming season. This may include clearing brush, raking, creating new beds, turning soil, and weeding. 11:15 a.m. – 3:15 p.m.
Kids' Book Bank Sorting and Packing Sort and pack the books by reading level so that partner sites can distribute them accordingly.   12:30 – 3:15 p.m. 
Kids Against Hunger Cleveland (on campus, run by student group) Help with set up and clean up on the first and last shifts. Volunteers on the assembly line will help with a variety of tasks associated with packaging the meals.  Various shifts, 10 a.m. - 4 p.m.
