But today cryptocurrencies are still little used as a means of payment. Instead, the usage of cryptocurrency is overwhelmingly for speculative purposes. I will discuss whether there is a future for cryptocurrency as money, whether that is in the form of tradable currencies, stablecoins, or central bank digital currency. Speaker Bio Peter Zimmerman is a research economist in the Research Department at the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland. His research interests are in financial market infrastructure and banking.
