Preparing For Future Readiness
You can begin your formal career preparation at the Weatherhead School during your first year via:
- MGMT 202: Career Success Strategies and the experiential course
- MGMT 198: Experience in Business Problem Solving, where you’ll work on a project for a local Cleveland organization.
In these courses and throughout your Weatherhead education, you’ll work in a variety of disciplines to develop tools such as self-awareness and emotional intelligence. You’ll also learn about motivation, decision-making, and building and maintaining connections with others. Finally, you’ll lay the foundation for career development by combining your knowledge with research on career options and identifying skills to be successful in your future job searches.
Case Western Reserve’s affiliations with hundreds of companies, nonprofit organizations, hospitals and government agencies in Cleveland and around the world make it easy to gain work experience in any number of fields. Summer internships and semester-long co-op (practicum) opportunities abound, and our action learning course for seniors includes our distinctive “consulting boot camp.” Students follow up this intensive experience by putting concepts into practice in a real-life consulting project for a local organization.

Coffee Connections
Coffee Connections offers you the opportunity to connect with a Weatherhead graduate over a cup of coffee or online. These sessions allow alumni to share their experiences and career insights, and offer advice about how to leverage a Weatherhead education in the real world.
Meet the Firms
Sponsored by Beta Alpha Psi in collaboration with the Career Center, both students and employers participate in this networking event. With more than 25 firms and companies looking to hire CWRU students for internships, practicums and entry positions, you will be able to make connections across industries.
Treks and Industry Visits
- Throughout the year, students can participate in exciting half-day Industry Visits with organizations such as Meaden & Moore, Parker-Hannifin, the Port of Cleveland and Progressive. These hands-on experiences give students the opportunity to connect with business professionals and industry leaders, explore workplace culture and gain exposure to career paths and industry trends. With transportation and food provided, students can focus on building confidence, expanding their networks and seeing how classroom interests connect to real-world impact. These visits are valuable for students across all Weatherhead majors, and some are also open to students still exploring or intending to declare a WSOM major.
- The Wall Street Trek is a great opportunity to explore careers in finance and related areas in New York City. The trek involves individual meetings and panel discussions with a broad range of institutions and alumni working in the nation’s top financial district. Many alumni you’ll meet are also in cutting-edge roles in technological innovation, research and more.
WSOM in CLE
Through WSOM in CLE: Student Access Pass, Weatherhead students gain free access to premier conferences, industry summits and professional events across Cleveland. This exciting program connects students to the leaders, ideas and conversations shaping today’s business world, offering valuable opportunities to learn beyond the classroom, expand their networks and explore career pathways. WSOM in CLE puts students in the room where it happens.
