Alumnus Spotlight: Andrew Frye (MBAI ‘23)

Andrew Frye

AI and advanced statistical modelling are improving the way research analysts can advise investment portfolio managers, resulting in better diversification, improved risk-adjusted returns, and reduced volatility. For Andrew Frye, research analyst and a recent Weatherhead graduate, it all makes for a very rewarding career.

“I really enjoy my job, because every day is different,” said Frye.  “From researching small tech companies to following large industrial distributors, working with portfolio managers to presenting investment ideas directly to decisionmakers, there is never a dull moment.”

Get to know more about Frye:

What is your favorite memory at Weatherhead?

“My favorite Weatherhead memory would be learning about AI models about a month before ChatGPT was released.”

What is something interesting you’re working on personally or professionally?

“I am working on a brief study on the historic underperformance of small cap stocks vs their large cap peers.”

What advice would you share with current students?

“My advice is to learn as many things as you can. Weatherhead makes it relatively easy, so take advantage of it. Also, the five minutes before and after a meeting, lecture, or class are often the most important. Finally, never be afraid to reach out. Strangers are often much more willing to help and bridges a lot less burnt than you would think. Whether it is for career advice, networking for that next job, or reconnecting with that old friend, be kind and respectful, but don’t be afraid to reach out.”
