Hispanic Heritage Month: Meet Helen Trujillo Prado, second-year economics student

Portrait of Helen Trujillo Prado

National Hispanic Heritage Month takes place each year from Sept. 15 through Oct. 15. In honor of the month, we are highlighting members of the Weatherhead School of Management community who are of Hispanic heritage to shed light on their experiences at the school and learn how they like to celebrate their heritage.

Helen Trujillo Prado is a second-year student majoring in economics and international studies with a minor in Spanish. Her hometown is Akron, Ohio. Get to know more about Trujillo Prado:

Why did you choose this area of study?

Growing up I did not travel much, so I’ve always inquired about culture, language and differences in society. I like economics for its social aspect and how business can be used to help people and evaluate people’s needs.

What do you love most about CWRU?

I love the campus. I think it has a unique beauty and taking a little walk helps me feel better when classes or life gets too stressful.

Are you doing anything to celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month?

I am going to many La Alianza events and helping La Alianza put them together!

As part of your Hispanic heritage, do you have any favorite traditions?

My favorite tradition is Novena! Although I’m not very religious, it's a great time. Nine days before Christmas we start Novena and I meet with my family for nine days straight. We sing, dance and eat!
