Dear Weatherhead Alumni and Friends,
There is a saying derived from the Buddha's teachings: “The trouble is, you think you have time.” For most of my career, I have had the luxury of ignoring time limits—always thinking that I can take on the next challenge and learn from it, almost without limit.
But at age 80, I can’t deny the clock anymore. So, after nearly 45 years of service to Case Western Reserve University, I am retiring this summer now that the academic year has come to an end.
Taking this step is difficult. Yet I can do it, thanks to the progress in the last two years of co-deanship with Andrew Medvedev. We have made great strides in re-engaging our valued alumni and friends, and the support of the faculty, staff and university administration remains steadfast. We still have many goals to achieve, but the path is clear, and the degree of collaboration necessary to get there is strong. I am confident that Andrew will take the Weatherhead School of Management to the next level of excellence.
While my role and day-to-day responsibilities will change, you will continue to be my family. I have always tried to leave every place I have been better off than when I arrived. I hope that is the case at Weatherhead.
I humbly ask you to join me in further strengthening Weatherhead’s future by giving to the Weatherhead Annual Fund or the fund that’s most meaningful to you.
