Meet Nhi Huynh, a B.S./M.S candidate in the Class of 2023. Nhi decided to pursue her master's in supply chain management at Weatherhead while also finishing a bachelor of science in chemical engineering program at Case Western Reserve University.

What led to your interest in these areas and why did you select Weatherhead as the school to pursue your master's?

Studying chemical engineering gave me early exposure to learn about supply chain in the manufacturing world, which I find fascinating. I decided to pursue this program at Weatherhead because I can take coursework in the area I want to specialize in while finishing my undergraduate degree, which has helped me become more competitive when seeking internship opportunities related to this field.

Where was your co-op position last year and what did you enjoy most about it?

Last semester, I did a co-op in lean manufacturing with Encapsys near Madison, Wisconsin. I enjoyed having the opportunity to implement some lean methods at the plant and see how they brought a positive impact to the company.

Tell us what you're doing through your internship with Dealer Tire.

This semester, I’m working part-time with Dealer Tire in Cleveland on increasing warehouse operations efficiency. I’m very excited to apply what I learn in my classes at Weatherhead to the internship!

What has stood out to you as a student attending Weatherhead?

The teaching quality. The professors in all of my classes are always very well prepared, providing me with strong technical and critical thinking skills. I also appreciate that my professors are always accessible out of class to help me when needed.

What advice would you have for someone with a similar background as you who is considering Weatherhead but is on the fence?

Talk to as many people from the school as you can. When I was considering this program a year ago, I was introduced to an alumna and a current student—both conversations led to more conversations with additional alumni. The coursework, the hands-on experience and what I learned from these conversations that helped me decide to pursue the program.

Are you from Cleveland? If not, what do you like about the city?

I’m originally from Vietnam, so Cleveland is where I spend most of my time in the U.S. When I have free time, I would love to spend a day at Edgewater Beach, get Barrio with my friends or see a concert downtown.

Upon graduation, what are your career goals?

I’m hoping to work in supply chain planning for a tech company. Because I love working with data, anything that involves analytics would be a huge plus.

Is there anything else you’d like to add about your time as a Weatherhead student and what you’re most excited about?

I started the program when classes were all remote, so I’m excited to now be able to see my classmates in-person and get to know them better through social events this year.
