Full-time Case Western Reserve University faculty may be recommended for emeritus appointment upon retirement, normally to be effective January 1 or July 1. Qualifications include meritorious service to the university of 10 years or more and minimum age of 60.
Faculty should consult with their department chair, or dean, if the school is not organized into departments, to begin the process for requesting an emeritus appointment. Once the faculty member submits their CV and their request for an emeritus appointment to their department chair or dean, it is the responsibility of the department chair or dean to move the application forward for review at the school level in accord with its policies. The school should follow the requirements and approval process described in the individual school’s bylaws and the Faculty Handbook (Chapter 3, Part Two, VI).
University trustees give final approval.
Recommendations must be submitted to the Office of the Provost on the first business day of April (for appointment July 1) or of November (for appointment January 1). All requests are submitted by the college or school through Interfolio.
