Summer on the Cuyahoga

Summer on the Cuyahoga (SOTC) is open to students from Case Western Reserve University and other partner universities and colleges. SOTC brings together 70+ students each summer for a unique immersive internship experience in Cleveland—home of the Cuyahoga River.

In partnership with leading employers and community organizations, the program connects students with paid internships, fun events, networking opportunities, alumni mentors, and free summer housing. Many participants have turned their SOTC internships into full-time job opportunities. Participants explore the region’s vibrant professional, civic, and social life while discovering why so many graduates choose to launch their careers in Cleveland.

Alumni play a critical role in helping students chart their course. Your experience, your credibility, and your advice are an invaluable complement to the program. SOTC is a student’s chance to experience all that the region has to offer—and to see how their future after graduation could start right in Cleveland. More about Summer on the Cuyahoga. Provide short-term housing for interns (Homestay)
Provide temporary housing to SOTC CWRU interns at the beginning and/or ending of the SOTC program. Students live in Case Western Reserve University or Cleveland State University dorms for most of the summer. However, some internships are longer than the period when dorms are available. Housing needs would be in May and August.

Mentor an Intern (Alumni Ambassador)
Share your knowledge about the professional world and Cleveland. Commit to meeting with the student at least twice over the course of the summer outside CWRU and SOTC events, and attend 2-3 CWRU and SOTC program events. Time commitment of about an hour a week for about half the weeks of the summer.

Host an Event for SOTC CWRU Interns
Host a casual cookout or other event at your home or a discussion about your career/industry, graduate school experience, etc. Events include meetings with civic leaders; cultural, social, and community service experiences; as well as career explorations with young professionals and alumni.
