Research Positions
Post Doctoral Scholars
The Department of Biochemistry at Case Western Reserve University invites applications for enthusiastic and highly motivated Postdoctoral Researchers in the following laboratories:
Description
Title: Postdoctoral Scholar
Salary Range: $62,000 - $65,000
Department: Biochemistry
Institute: School of Medicine, Case Western Reserve University
Supervisor: Wenjian Gan, Associate Professor
Job Summary
Postdoctoral fellow to work full-time on understanding the functions of protein post-translational
modifications in human cancers. The research will focus on the regulatory mechanisms and
physiological functions of arginine methylation in genomic instability, metabolism, cell signaling,
and cancer progression, as well as exploring druggable targets for cancer therapy. Studies will
use a range of complementary methods including biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology,
functional cell-based assays and mouse genetic models. More details can be found in lab
website https://www.wenjianganlab.com/
Job Duties
1. Using molecular biology and cell culture models to dissect questions related to arginine
methylation. These duties include DNA/RNA purification, plasmid construction, PCR, RT-
qPCR, cell culture, transfection, protein exaction, immunoprecipitation, western blot, cell
proliferation, and colony formation.
2. Using genetic mouse models to study the role of arginine methylation in cancer progression
and metastasis. These duties include genotyping of mice, mice maintenance, mice
breeding, drug treatment studies, monitoring for cancer development.
3. Collaborates with the PI to prepare manuscripts and grants. Duties include preparing figures
based on data collected, writing manuscripts and grants with the PI and senior team
members, presenting current work in research in progress seminars, attending departmental
seminars and participating in journal clubs.
4. Collaborates with other lab members to maintain the laboratory, including making buffers,
equipment maintenance, cleanup of lab areas, monitoring usage and deliver of lab supplies.
Qualifications
1. The candidate should be highly motivated and within three years of receiving a Ph.D. or M.D./Ph.D. degree.
2. The candidate should have a solid background and strong technical skills in biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, cancer biology, and mouse models.
3. The candidate should have a publication track record.
Application Instructions
Interested candidates should send a cover letter describing current and future research interests, a current CV with names and contact information for 2-3 references to Dr. Wenjian Gan at wxg208@case.edu.
