Current CWRU students interested in combining their undergraduate degree with a MS in Biotechnology in one of 3 tracks (Biochemistry, Neurosciences, or Pharmacology) may apply for early admission to our MS program and complete courses for both their undergraduate and MS degrees concurrently.
Students should review the MS in Biotechnology and the specialized track curricula to decide if it will benefit their future career and/or studies. Since nine credit hours of approved graduate courses can be double-counted for both the undergraduate and MS degrees, the combined program will save the student time and tuition compared to pursuing their degrees sequentially.
An exciting aspect of the MS Biotechnology is a required internship (BIOC/NEUR/PHRM 610) to provide real-world experience in biotechnology and enhance job prospects after graduation. Internships are most likely to be found for summer placement. Therefore, CBM students should plan to spend the summer after their 4th undergraduate year completing the required internship. If all other requirements have been successfully completed, the CBM student may graduate during the same summer semester in which they complete their internship.
CWRU has admission requirements for all combined Bachelor's/Master's programs. Students interested in the CBM Biotechnology should complete at least one semester of organic chemistry before applying. Additionally, students interested in the Pharmacology Track must take PHRM 309 or 409 fall of their third year if they wish to complete the combined degrees in approximately 4 years.
