First paragraph: Indicate the reason for writing, the specific position or type of work for which you are applying and how you learned of the opening. Mention why you are interested in the position, the organization, its products and services. You may wish to include the name of the contact who referred you to the company/opportunity.

(Leave a space between paragraphs.)

Second paragraph: Promote yourself! Refer the reader to your attached resume that summarizes your qualifications, training and experience. Explain how your academic background, specific achievements and unique qualifications make you a qualified candidate for that specific position. Indicate what you can do for the employer.
