Faculty Director for Faculty Advancement and Postdoctoral Affairs

The Faculty Director for Faculty Advancement and Postdoctoral Affairs provides leadership in the Office of the Provost and contributes to the quality and effectiveness of programming and support of all faculty, emeriti, and postdoctoral fellows and scholars. The Office of Faculty Advancement and Postdoctoral Affairs applies a lifespan approach to faculty development that begins with the postdoctoral experience and runs through emeriti status.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Partnering with the Deputy Provost and the Administrative Director for Faculty Advancement and Postdoctoral Affairs to implement the strategic goals and objectives of the office consistent with the long-term plan of the university’s mission and priorities.
  2. Develop and integrate new programs and mechanisms to support and advance faculty and post-docs across the campus who engage in cutting-edge research and teaching.
  3. Provide oversight, guidance, and expertise to faculty principal investigators on matters related to postdocs including employee relations issues, interpretation of policies, procedures and practices, and provide support and consultation in decision making on a varied range of employee concerns/issues. Provide faculty with training and resources to position them as impactful mentors for postdocs is a priority for this role.
  4. Assist Office of the Provost staff with improving the infrastructure that will lead to an increase in the number of prestigious national and international awards and honors CWRU faculty receive. Develop resources that will facilitate successful faculty award nominations including identification of pathways leading to prestigious awards.
  5. Partner with the Office of Campus Engagement and Enrichment to improve faculty and postdoc engagement.

Position Requirements:

  • Eligibility: Must hold a current appointment as a tenured professor at Case Western Reserve University.
  • Effort: This is a part-time administrative leadership role requiring 50% effort.
  • Stipend: An administrative stipend will be provided in addition to the base faculty salary.

The successful candidate will be a respected scholar-leader with a deep commitment to institutional service and a passion for mentorship. They should possess:

  • Prior experience working collaboratively with faculty across the schools and the college in the areas of research, teaching, and/or service.
  • Experience with hiring and mentoring postdocs.
  • A sophisticated understanding of the challenges faced by faculty and postdocs especially in the area of research, scholarship and professional development.
  • A forward-thinking mindset regarding "lifespan" professional development.
  • Strong communication skills.
