Since December, 22 Master of Finance students have partnered with Breakthrough Public Schools to help with Breakthrough 2030, a long-range financial planning initiative.
Breakthrough Schools is a non-profit organization supporting the highest-performing network of free, public charter schools in Cleveland, Ohio. In this project, Weatherhead students are collecting, assembling and analyzing a large sample of financial and academic data from best-in-class public schools and public-school networks to use in modeling Breakthrough’s long-term financial planning process.
Doug Mangen, Chief Financial Officer at Breakthrough Public Schools, has coordinated this ongoing project with Weatherhead students.
“As a non-profit organization, Breakthrough Public Schools would not be able to complete such a massive project without the assistance of a partner like Case Weatherhead,” he said.
Qian Guo, a student in the Master of Finance program, has been working on the project since December.
“It’s been an unforgettable experience for me to join this project,” Guo said. “I think this experience benefits me a lot in working with team members and brainstorming ideas with them to gather data and solve problems.”
Mangen says Weatherhead students have not only brought their meaningful research and analysis skills to the project, but also the energy and passion needed to help the inner-city Breakthrough scholars.
“The support provided by the Weatherhead students and administration has been amazing,” Mangen said. “Breakthrough Public Schools is so fortunate to have such a great partner in developing new ways to help our young Cleveland scholars in their journey to achieve amazing academic success.”
