Focus

Our SMIC is focused on supporting Small and Medium sized Manufacturers on their Smart Manufacturing Journey.

That journey could take several paths, but we will focus on four key activities: Outreach, Engagement, Assessment and Implementation.

Outreach

Outreach will be organized around full-day quarterly Events that our Smart Manufacturing Cluster will host with not only vendors, but objective, SMM-relevant content.

Engagement

In addition to the outreach events, our engagement strategy will include several SMM-relevant manufacturing demonstrators built using CESMII’s SMIP (described below).

Assessment

Assessment will be done via a Smart Manufacturing Readiness Assessment Survey developed by our Smart Manufacturing Cluster to help SMM’s establish their readiness - maturity – to begin their Smart Manufacturing adoption and helping them identify where to start.

Implementation

Finally, Implementation - MAGNET will be working with cohorts of SMMs and directly supporting their Smart Manufacturing implementations while creating Smart Manufacturing lighthouses along the way.

Haas Mini Mill

As part of the implementation effort, this center will build and operate two SMM-relevant demonstrators using the CESMII SMIP.

The first will be focused on manual arc welding, in partnership with Lincoln Electric, using a Lincoln Electric Power Wave C300 and Arc Tracker real-time monitor.

The second will be focused on CNC milling, using a Haas Mini Mill integrated with Advanced Manufacturing International’s LIMS system.

ISSACS is a member of CESMII, the Smart Manufacturing Institute, a US government funded, non-profit organization to drive Smart Manufacturing.

CESMII's mission is to "radically accelerate the development and adoption of advanced sensors, controls, platforms, and models, to enable Smart Manufacturing (SM) to become the driving sustainable engine that delivers real-time business improvements in U.S. manufacturing."
