The 2026 cohort of Freedman Scholars consists of the following students:
Salimatou Diallo: a junior biomedical engineering major with minors in computer science and women’s, gender, and sexuality studies. She is interested in Generative AI and LLMs, game design, and data visualization.
Eda Ergin: is a sophomore computer and electrical engineering major. She is interested in virtual reality, 3D modeling, web design, Python, and machine learning.
Elian Maycock: a master’s student in business analytics and intelligence with a BS in data science. He is interested in data visualization and analysis, especially through predictive models and dashboards.
Ángel Axel Méndez Mejía: a freshman majoring in Engineering Physics. He is particularly interested in LLMs, machine learning, and Python.
Jake Tan: a freshman mechanical engineering major with a minor in systems and control engineering. He is interested in data analysis and visualization, especially in R, Python, and MATLAB.
Liza Viers: a musicology PhD student with a BA in musicology and Latin American studies. She is interested in digitization and data visualization. Her work as a Scholar focuses on historical research of the Center and its programming, including creating digital exhibits and virtual storytelling.
