Instruction and Workshops

The Freedman Center is closed!

To support a transition to new spaces and technology, the Freedman Center is closed and will reopen in August 2025. See this webpage for more information.

Digital Scholarship specialists support student and researchers' learning on workflows with digital projects, specific software packages like ArcGIS and Python, and digitization equipment and methodologies.

For Instructors

Invite a digital scholarship specialist to partner with your course to assist with learning tools within our areas of expertise. Specialists can:

  • Visit your class for a guest lecture, virtually or in person
  • Host your class for a session in the Freedman Center or a KSL instructional space
  • Work with you to build a Canvas module or pages that support course assignments using Freedman Center or digital scholarship resources
  • Direct you to existing online resources to support instruction

To get started, email FreedmanCenter@case.edu and share information about your course and what kind of support you would need. You can also book a consultation directly with a digital scholarship specialist.

For Learners

Digital Scholarship specialists support faculty, staff, and students who are expanding their skillsets in research software and digital scholarship tools.

Do you like working at your own pace?

Check out the Freedman Center's tutorials for self-paced instruction on research software and digitization workflows. If you do not see what you are looking for or need more support, you can book with a specialist to talk about your project or email the Freedman Center (FreedmanCenter@case.edu) to be connected with someone who can assist you.

Do you like learning in a structured environment?

The Digital Scholarship workshop series provides synchronous instruction in formats ranging from in person (in KSL) to hybrid and online. Topics vary each semester, but routinely include introduction to ArcGIS, text and data analysis in R and Python, and photogrammetry. The current schedule is below, and you can see the full slate of workshops and sign up on Campus Groups.
