What is a Designated Advisor
A designated advisor is a CWRU staff or faculty member chosen by a student for additional support. Once added by a student or a SIS administrator, this advisor can see academic and demographic information for the student in SIS; they are not able to release holds.
Add a Designated Advisor
A student can add or remove a Designated Advisor in SIS by going to their Advisors tile. For detailed instructions, see our Designated Advisor guide.
Authorized User vs. Designated Advisor
An Authorized User is also an individual or third-party sponsor chosen by a student to access their SIS information, but an Authorized User is someone outside of the university, such as a parent or family member.
An Authorized User is also added by the student in SIS. The student has the option to give an Authorized User access to academic information, financial information or both.
For detailed instructions on adding an authorized user, see our Manage Authorized Users guide.
