Modes Defined

The modes of instruction are as follows:

In Person, Traditional (P) - Courses in which the contact hours between faculty and students occur face-to-face and in-person.

Added for Fall 2020:

  • Blended (Emergency) (E3)- Courses in which the instructional contact hours between teaching staff and students occur through a combination of remote (synchronous and/or asynchronous) and in-person instruction.
  • Remote-Asynchronous (Emergency) (E2) - Courses normally taught in-person, but due to emergency, 100% of instructional contact hours are delivered asynchronously via electronic communication or equivalent mechanisms with teaching staff physically separated from students. There will be no specific meetings days and times; students view recorded material on their own schedule.
  • Remote-Synchronous (Emergency) (E1) - Courses normally taught in-person, but due to emergency, 100% of the instructional contact hours will be delivered remotely, with the majority of contact hours delivered synchronously, via electronic communication or equivalent mechanisms with teaching staff physically separated from students. Students are expected to attend synchronous meetings at designated days and times.

Continuing codes from prior to Fall 2020.  Note that these codes are in use for courses in which some or all material is normally delivered online  They are not used for courses with instructional delivery modes that are temporarily altered due to the pandemic:

  • Distance, Total (DT) - Courses in which 100% of contact hours are delivered synchronously or asynchronously via electronic communication or equivalent mechanisms, with faculty physically separated from students.
  • Distance, Extensive (DE) - Courses in which 75 to 99% of contact hours are delivered synchronously or asynchronously via electronic communication or equivalent mechanisms, with faculty physically separated from students.
  • Hybrid Delivery (HY) - Courses in which the contact hours between faculty and students occur through a combination of distance and in-person instruction.

Summer 2020 only:

  • Distance, Total-Emergency (DM) - Courses in which 100% of contact hours are delivered synchronously or asynchronously via electronic communication or equivalent mechanisms, with faculty physically separated from students due to emergency.
