Childhood Studies students spent their spring break (March 6-10) meeting with government and non-governmental agencies, think tanks, legislators and staff, and advocacy organizations to discuss current child policy as part of the CHST 302 course. The students used these meetings to gather information on their specific research topics: Mental Health Care and Juvenile Justice, Trauma and Foster Care, Early Education and Universal Pre-K, and Higher Education Access and Affordability. Some highlights outside of the various meetings included touring the West Wing and speaking with members of the White House Administration; and attending a Senate HELP committee meeting with a large gathering of senators during which a bill was voted out of committee and Dr. John King’s nomination for Secretary of the Department of Education was approved.

This course and trip are made possible by the generous support of the Mann Endowment Fund.
