Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University (QCGU) has announced the inaugural Susan McClary Research Fellowship in Musicology, named in honor of esteemed musicologist and CWRU faculty member Susan McClary.
Generously funded by Professor Sally Macarthur, the fellowship recognizes McClary’s groundbreaking contributions to musicology and cultural studies. Her scholarship has helped reshape understandings of music as not only an aesthetic art form, but also a powerful social and cultural practice connected to identity, history, and society.
The fellowship will support one scholar for up to one academic year to pursue focused research in musicology at QCGU in Brisbane, Australia. The award includes a $40,000 stipend plus up to $10,000 in research-related expenses and is intended to foster innovative, interdisciplinary scholarship that builds upon the spirit of McClary’s work.
Applicants must hold a doctoral qualification relevant to musicology and demonstrate a strong research record appropriate to their career stage. Applications are due October 29, 2026, at 11:59 p.m. AEST.
