The undergraduate program in the Department of Music at Case Western Reserve University is designed to help you explore and grow your musical talents! By leveraging the resources of both a major research university and a top-tier conservatory through our Joint Music Program (JMP) with the Cleveland Institute of Music (CIM), you'll have access to fantastic opportunities for musical development and discovery.
Degree Pathways
You can choose to pursue either a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in Music or a Bachelor of Science (BS) in Music Education.
- Both programs require submission of the Music Arts Supplement during the application process.
- The BS in Music Education also includes a live interview and audition component.
Combining Music with Other Fields
If you'd like to pair music with another academic interest, you may pursue a double major or dual degree. This flexible approach allows you to integrate music studies with disciplines such as engineering, pre-medicine, business, sciences, or the humanities–broadening your educational experience and career opportunities.

Not planning to major in music? You can still:
- Join ensembles
- Take applied music lessons with CIM faculty (instructional fee applies)
- Add a Minor in Music or take recommended music electives
