Sam Motes (she/they) is a Fat Queer activist who is joining the CWRU team as Education Program Manager focusing on Power-Based Violence Prevention within the campus community. Sam is coming to CWRU from the Cleveland Rape Crisis Center where she served as an Education and Outreach Specialist co-creating and facilitating psycho-educational workshops regarding Sex Work, Sexual Violence within the LGBTQ+ Community, Gender Affirming Care, Consent and Boundaries, as well as other topics related to sexual and gender based violence prevention throughout the Northeast Ohio region to schools, community partners, and the general public.
Sam holds 5+ years of social service experience as an advocate, educator, and mentor within the Domestic Violence, Sexual Violence, and LGBTQ+ community; previously serving as LGBTQ+ Student Service Specialist at Cleveland State University’s LGBTQ+ Student Services Center. Assisting students with the Title IX reporting process, collaborating with University departments and administration in improving quality of life for the LGBTQ+ community on campus, and hosting social-educational events on campus!
Sam currently holds a Bachelor’s in Environmental Studies from Cleveland State University accompanying two minors in Women and Gender Studies as well as Black Studies.
