The purpose of the CWRU Pride LGBT Ohio Leadership Award is to provide recognition and financial assistance to outstanding students working to make an impact in the LGBT community at Case Western Reserve University, in Greater Cleveland, or nationally through scholarship, research, or leadership activities aside from their CWRU coursework.
Qualifications
Qualified applicants include those who:
- Are enrolled or admitted to Case Western Reserve as an undergraduate or graduate student;
- Are in good academic standing with the university; and
- Propose (or have completed) an activity aside from CWRU coursework to advance the LGBT community at CWRU, in Greater Cleveland, or nationally through scholarship, leadership experience, or research made possible by the award.

Personal Statement Instructions
A personal statement (two pages maximum) is required. The statement should address your interest in and personal commitment to LGBT issues, and describe how the award will allow you to make an impactful change in the LGBT community on campus, in Northeast Ohio or nationally. Please include a proposed budget for your planned activity or research to ensure completion of any planned activity, experience, or research covered in the statement.
Letter(s) of Recommendation
Please submit up to two letters of recommendation in support of this award application. At least one letter is required.
Application Deadline
Applications for 2024 must be submitted by 12 p.m. ET, Friday, Oct. 4.
Award Term and Amount
The amount of the award may vary year to year, with a maximum of $2,000. Awards should be used within one academic year.
Selection Procedure
Applicants meeting the criteria for the CWRU Pride LGBT Ohio Leadership Award will be reviewed by a committee which includes representatives from:
- the CWRU Pride Alumni Network,
- the CWRU LGBT Center, and
- the CWRU student body.
Recipients will be officially recognized at the LGBT Welcome Reception at 6p.m.,on Friday, November 15, during Case Western Reserve’s 2024 homecoming weekend, as well as through media and website releases.
