Transgender Health Care Benefits for Students

Gender affirmation care is covered by Aetna for students. Please contact the LGBT Center with questions or concerns about navigating insurance policies. 

Transgender Health Benefits for Employees

Gender affirmation care is covered by MMO SuperMed, Anthem, and CLE-Care HMO insurances. Please find coverage information in the Certificate of Coverage for MMOSuperMed. LGBT Pride Clinic at the Thomas F. McCafferty Health Center

MetroHealth's Pride Clinic at the McCafferty Health Center is the first clinic in the region and one of only 12 health centers in the country devoted to serving the health needs of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender community. 

Center for LGBT Care

Cleveland Clinic’s Center for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) Care opened at the Chagrin Falls Family Health Center and Lakewood Family Health Center. Embedded in a primary care practice, the center provides care for all patients in a safe and welcoming environment. It includes providers who understand the health needs of LGBT patients, and access to specialists with expertise in LGBT care.

James Hekman, MD specializes in LGBT health and co-chairs Cleveland Clinic’s Gay and Lesbian Employee Resource Group. Dr. Hekman helped design the center and has moved his internal medicine practice to Lakewood.

Equitas Health Akron

The Lake Effect Free Alternative LGBTQ Health Clinic

Lake Effect Clinic is LGBTQ+ founded and operated and offers free Massage, Energy Balancing Treatments, and Herbal Medicine monthly, on the first Thursday of the month, to Cleveland area LGBTQ+ residents at the LGBT Community Center of Greater Cleveland, 6600 Detroit Ave. Please contact Lake Effect at clinic@lakeeffectclinic.org for more information. 

AIDS Taskforce of Greater Cleveland

The AIDS Taskforce of Greater Cleveland provides a compassionate and collaborative response to the needs of people infected, affected by, and at risk of HIV/AIDS. The Cleveland Rape Crisis Center

The LGBT Center will have Outreach Specialists in the space on Mondays. during the academic year. They are a confidential resource for students, faculty, and staff on topics ranging from intimate partner violence to different types of abuse. Learn more about the work of the CRCC at CWRU. Redefining Safe Spaces for Transgender Patients

This resource highlights the issue of transgender patient mistreatment in healthcare. Also discussed are provider tips for creating a safe space environment for transgender patients. Addressed in the article are terms of gender identity. 

Advocates for Youth

Information and Support for LGBTQ Youth - provides a wealth of information and resources on many issues, including coming out, STI's AIDS, and other FAQ's and fact sheets. Growing up LGBT can be difficult. Advocates for Youth is working to change these issues through advocacy, support, community, and information.

Gay and Lesbian Medical Association

GLMA is a national organization committed to ensuring equality in health care for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) individuals and health care professionals. GLMA achieves its goals by using medical expertise in professional education, public policy work, patient education and referrals, and the promotion of research. The site contains a lot of information and has an on-line referral database.

LGBT Health Channel

Healthcommunities.com and Fenway Community Health of Boston have aligned to create the LGBT Health Channel, a lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender-related consumer health care community. In addition to being a nationally recognized leader in HIV research and care, Fenway Community Health has provided medical and mental health care for the LGBT community of Boston for 30 years.

National Coalition of LGBT Health

The National Coalition of LGBT Health is committed to improving the health and well-being of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals and communities through public education, coalition building and advocacy that focus on research, policy, education and training.
