Mission and Goals
Kelvin Smith Library's Assessment and User Experience (AUX) Program supports the core functions of the library by collecting and analyzing data that can be used to make evidenced-based decisions. It aims to better align KSL services, collections, and spaces with user needs. The program promotes a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and data-driven decision making at KSL.
Initiatives
To gain insight into KSL user needs and empower staff to make data-driven decisions, the AUX Team leads several ongoing initiatives, including:
- Data dashboards
- Biennial user satisfaction survey
- Space usage assessments
- User interviews and focus groups
- Usability testing
- Signage and wayfinding assessments
Data Collected
KSL collects a wide variety of data that is used to understand usage patterns, identify successes and areas for improvement, and make informed decisions. The data collected includes:
- Circulation of physical items
- Usage of databases, eJournals, eBooks, and other online resources
- Website data
- Event attendance
- Reference transactions
- Entrances and exits in the building
