The objects we surround ourselves with in life and death have many stories to tell. We often learn about the lives of ancient cultures through the objects made for their homes and their burial spaces. From tableware, to furniture, to textiles – similar kinds of artworks are still valued in our lives today. We might categorize these items as decorative arts, but throughout history, these objects have been prized for their utility, beauty and symbolism. Session topics will include the special focus gallery exhibition Rose Iron Works and Art Deco, as well as various decorative arts across the museum’s exhibitions and permanent collection. This on-site course involves walking through the museum galleries. Assisted listening devices are available.
