This course explores Broadway shows around five topics: Unsung Songs, including excellent but forgotten songs; Crazy For You, on how mental health, personalities and relationships, were portrayed for comedic and serious purposes; What the Heck Does That Mean, explaining the meaning behind historical references in song lyrics about people, places, and events that today require context and definition; Jewish Musicals on Broadway on the portrayal of Jewish life and experience on stage; and Western People Funny, exploring musicals set abroad, and how they created American understanding of these places.
