THE GOOD, THE BAD, AND THE UGLY: ANGELS AND DEVILS IN ART (IN-PERSON)

Instructor(s)
Sean Crum, MA
Instructor of Lifelong Learning
Date
Tuesdays, September 15 to October 27
Time
10:30 AM to Noon ET

The history of art is filled with good guys and bad guys, angels and devils, beautiful things and ugly things. It was bad that the Cathedral of Notre-Dame caught fire on April 15, 2019. What was good was the worldwide response to restore it. Claude Monet created the most beautiful paintings of gardens and landscapes in art history. Michelangelo painted an epic masterpiece in the Sistine Chapel. The Tudors employed some of the greatest court painters but had some of the worst monarchs, and one of the best. Forgers and art thieves are the bad actors of art history, yet even their fakes are worth money. Art history is replete with ugly monsters, creatures, and demons, yet some symbolize power, and some are employed in useful services.

This course is offered with the generous support of the Association of Continuing Education.
