From ancient carvings to modern logos, symbols shape how we understand the world. This course explores the language of symbols across cultures and time, revealing how images—from the caduceus to the Red Cross and Red Crescent—carry layers of meaning beyond words. Before literacy, symbols served as a primary means of communication, connecting belief, identity, and experience. Through rich visual examples and discussion, we’ll uncover the stories, traditions, and shared human values embedded in these images. Discover how symbolic expression continues to influence contemporary culture and what it reveals about the societies that created them.
