The Old Testament has much to say about the men who shaped ancient Jewish history—but what about the women? Beginning with Eve and Lilith, this course examines the roles of women in the Old Testament through paintings and sculptures. We will explore figures such as Judith and Rahab, celebrated as heroines, as well as women portrayed as wicked seductresses. Some names will be instantly recognizable—Sarah and Rachel, for example—while others, such as Athaliah or Bithia, may be new. Together, we will explore their stories through 500 years
