This unique course examines the legal and jurisprudential aspects of the Nazi regime and its aftermath. Part 1 examines how Hitler and the Nazi Party gained and exercised power through legal mechanisms, the complicity of the German judiciary, and the use of law to define, marginalize, and persecute Jews and other victim groups. Topics include the demise of the Weimar Democracy, creation of the Hitler dictatorship, and use of law and the courts for expropriation, ghettoization, genocide.
