Abba Hillel Silver served as Rabbi of The Temple– Tifereth Israel from 1917 to 1963, helping to shape Cleveland’s religious and civic life until his death in 1989. His son, Daniel Jeremy Silver, joined the congregation in 1956 and continued a family legacy of leadership and activism until 1989. Active in national and international Jewish organizations, both men left an enduring mark. Their recently digitized papers reveal their advocacy for Israel, Judaism, synagogue life, labor law, civil rights, and urban development. Participants will learn about their contribution and analyze their historical footprint including film and audio to illuminate their immense communal impact.
