In this two-session course and discussion, we will explore the rich history of sign language and cultural significance. We will focus on four essential concepts of Judaism: Shema, Tzedakah, Tikkun Olam, and Tikvah, and examine their relevance and application within the Jewish Deaf and Hard of Hearing Community. We will learn about the differences and similarities between Israeli Sign Language (ISL) and American Sign Language (ASL). Through interactive activities, we’ll practice basic signs and phrases, fostering an inclusive environment where participants can connect, share experiences, and deepen their understanding of both Jewish values and the unique culture of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing community.
