In this lecture series, Rabbi Dr. Daniel Isaac explores the importance of Judaeo-Arabic in Jewish history. In class one he takes us through where, when and what is Judaeo-Arabic. In class two he will present the Judaeo-Arabic writings in translation to demonstrate the significance of the language to Jewish history. Lastly, he will discuss Judaeo-Arabic today, its use in scholarship and decline as a spoken language by Jews in Arab lands. The series will include material from the world-famous Cairo Geniza, short films, and recordings of the language as spoken today.
