As William Wordsworth’s famous line contends, “The world is too much with us.” Today, the world certainly feels too much with us. In this course we would like to explore how poetry can help us find our way through this fraught and particular cultural moment. We will ask the question, why is it important, perhaps essential, to have poets right now? In this course we will talk about how to read poetry and consider how a poem can have an impact on us. Using poems from writers like Emily Dickinson, Mary Oliver, Naomi Shihab Nye, Archibald MacLeish, Billy Collins, and Tracy K. Smith.
Readings will be provided by Instructors.
