The three Western monotheistic religions of Judaism, Christianity and Islam share a good deal in common. Not only do they all have roots in Biblical monotheism, but they all recognize the same major Biblical prophets such as Noah, Abraham, David, Elijah, Jonah; Islam also recognizes Jesus as a prophet. There were also considerable philosophical and theological interconnections as each forged their classic identities in the wake of the moral and ethical teachings of Hellenistic and Greco-Roman culture. Finally, they share a linear sense of time leading to the coming of a final judgement and a messianic age. These commonalities are often overlooked in modern confrontations.
