In recent years, the U.S. Supreme Court has issued many significant decisions that will have broad implications for the future of American law and society. For example, the Court has overruled decisions that found a constitutional right to abortion and that permitted some forms of race-based affirmative action, and it has taken an expansive view of religious liberty and gun rights. The Court has also shown skepticism toward federal regulatory authority and voting rights claims, and it has embraced an expansive view of presidential authority. This course will examine what the Court has been doing and how we will be affected by its work.
