Many of us are familiar with the line “From Albany to Buffalo,” from the song beginning “I’ve got a mule and her name is Sal”. Some of us even sang it in grade school. But only a few of us are aware that many important events occurred in upper New York State. Three of them are: 1. a series of military engagements that ultimately determined the outcome of the Revolutionary War, 2. the construction of the Erie Canal, and 3. the first women’s rights convention in 1848. Their consequences shaped the United States, and indeed, the world we live in today.
