What does it mean to be a stranger in a strange land? Born in Korea to a Korean Buddhist mother and a Jewish American father, Angela Buchdahl grew up in Tacoma, Washington, and felt called to the rabbinate by age sixteen, despite doubts about whether she was considered a “real” Jew. With determination, she pursued her vocation, becoming both a cantor and a rabbi. Today, she serves as Senior Rabbi of Central Synagogue in Manhattan and is the first ordained Asian American rabbi. Her memoir weaves personal narrative with sermonic reflections on identity, belonging, and inclusion.
